The final phase of the 2013 Coastal Bend Business Plan Competition has begun, and the field of competitors is narrowed. Finalists will vie for an estimated $22,000 in in-kind services designed to jumpstart the business and a cash prize to the first place winner.
Competitors made it to the finals based on their most recently submitted business plans. The Coastal Bend Business Plan Competition Committee judged those plans with the next step being finalists making presentations of their concepts before five local celebrity judges.
The event begins at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 20, in Room 100 of the Venters Business Building on Del Mar College’s East Campus on Ayers Street. The public is welcome to hear the finalists present.
A winner or winners will be awarded based on the viability of their business plan and the potential for its economic impact to the Coastal Bend’s regional economy. However, every finalist will be given invaluable feedback from real investors on the viability of their business plan, providing the catalyst for putting a business on the right track for success.
Finalists and time of their presentations are:
• 3:15 p.m. G & G Sustainability: A water turbine system to convert energy contained in flowing wastewater effluent into electricity using hydropower technology
• 3:45 p.m. Sirena Water Wear: Sealegs Adventure Shorts…a solution to an age-old problem
• 4:15 p.m. Maricela Sanchez Art: Focus on home accessories for pet owners

The finalist will be announced during The Business Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, May 22, at the Solomon P. Ortiz Center.
