DMC Cinco de Mayo Celebration with “Fiesta Latina”

Del Mar College will hold an early Cinco de Mayo celebration with the DMC Foreign Languages Club presenting “Fiesta Latina.”

The free event recognizes and celebrates Mexican culture and remembers the 1862 Battle of Puebla.

Event highlights include a short reading covering the history of Cinco de Mayo, traditional Latin music, folklorico dance, Loteria games, flower-making crafts and a pińata.

DMC’s Social Dance Club also will perform traditional Latin dances such as salsa, merengue and tango, among others.

During “Fiesta Latina,” participants can stroll through a Mexican village that includes an aduana (customs office), a bank, cantina (bar), a church, hotel and a police station.

The club will serve tamales and aguas frescas (lemonade) as part of the celebration.

The event will be held on grassy area between Solomon Coles Classroom Building and Garcia Sciences Building, Del Mar College East Campus at Kosar off Staples and Naples.

The event is free and open to the public.
