Mary Jo O’Rear Lecture: Bulwark Against the Bay

Join Del Mar College’s Social Sciences Department and the Mexican-American Studies program for a lecture by historian and author Mary Jo O’Rear about her new book, Bulwark Against the Bay: The People of Corpus Christi and Their Seawall.

O’Rear’s book reveals the struggle to construct a seawall.

The project was not merely an engineering challenge.

It was also bound up with the growing popularity of the Ku Klux Klan, local aversion to Roman Catholicism, the emergence of the League of United Latin American Citizens, new efforts on behalf of African American equality, the impact of the Great Depression, support for Franklin D. Roosevelt and reactions to the New Deal.

Get a historic perspective about the Corpus Christi seawall during this enlightening lecture.

This event is free and open to the public.
