DMC 51st Annual National Drawing and Small Sculpture Show
Description:

Del Mar College’s Annual National Drawing and Small Sculpture Show attracts works from some of the most creative contemporary American artists from across the United States.

Each year, a guest juror of national stature judges the annual show with internationally known woodcut artist Carlos Llerena Aguirre serving as the 2017 juror.

Aguirre has published woodcuts in international journals, books, magazines, children’s books and newspapers.

Additionally, his woodcuts are in the Library of Congress Permanent Collection.

Out of the artworks submitted for 2017, Aguirre selected the final pieces making up this year’s National Drawing and Small Show, which is hosted by the College’s Department of Art and Drama.

Over the past 50 years, purchase awards by the DMC Art Program and the William F. White, Jr. Library have built an impressive permanent collection at Del Mar College.

The 2017 exhibit is on display in the distinctive Joseph A. Cain Memorial Art Gallery through May 5.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays.

The exhibit is free.

[1:30pm-2:30pm] Del Mar College Viking Book Club Monthly Meeting
Description:

DMC Viking Book Club meeting participants will discuss The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty.

There are more than enough secrets to go around in the intertwining lives of three women connected to a Catholic elementary school in Sidney.

As the women confront the past and make hard decisions about their futures (the novel’s men are pale and passive), their fates collide in unexpected ways.

Moriarty experiments with the intersection of comedy and tragedy in her slyly ambitious consideration of secrecy, temptation, guilt and human beings’ general imperfection.

Club meetings are open to the public.

For more information, contact Benita Flores-Muñoz at 698-2385 or benitaflores@delmar.edu.
