Description:

It’s tax time, again!

Trying to make sense of the different filing forms can be a struggle.

And, paying for an accountant to prepare returns may not be part of your budget.

Del Mar College students trained in tax and accounting software will provide free services (first come, first served) for area filers who make less than $50,000 per year.

This free service is offered through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and is offered at Del Mar College every Tuesday and Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. through April 13 (except during Spring Break March 13-17).

As part of Corpus Christi’s observances of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this year, Del Mar College and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi have joined forces to host the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration, “Bridging the Gaps.”

The event features guest speaker Dr. Cherry Ross Gooden, 2013 NAACP-Corpus Christi Freedom Fund Banquet Keynote Speaker, NAACP-Houston Branch Secretary and retired associate professor from Texas Southern University.

A founding member and past president of the National Association for Multicultural Education, Dr. Gooden has served as president for the Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education and as director of the Higher Education Commission of the National Alliance of Black School Educators.

This event is free and open to the public.
